Thank you for your interest in the RamDisk+ program. This program has been written to automate as much as possible the start up of the Macintosh when an internal RAM disk is desired. All controls of the program are remembered, so that once set, the program will run quickly with no user interaction required.
Here is a list of the principal features of RamDisk+:
• Automatically creates a RAM disk volume and copies over files and folders.
• Optionally switches control to the RAM disk and ejects the startup floppy. (MultiFinder is automatically started when MultiFinder is copied to the RAMdisk.)
• Optionally runs an additional program without returning to the Finder.
• Optionally installs a "Crash Saver" to continue from BOMBs.
• Works with HFS or MFS file systems on Mac 512(E), Mac Plus, Mac SE, and Mac II.
If you have already had access to the program, you will have probably discovered its capabilities, but if not, here is a reminder of the bare essentials necessary to use RamDisk+:
• The "Configuration Dialog" is obtained by holding down the Option key during launch, or by clicking the mouse button while files are being copied. (Be sure to read the help pages at least once.)
• If you wish to automatically run another program when RamDisk+ is finished, you may specify that file through the Upon Exit... menu option. You may find it necessary to specify a "full path name" for that file. If so, use the form "Volume:folder:...folder:application". Caution: specify an application only, not a document.
• Control of which files are copied over is determined by the position of RamDisk+ within your folder structures. Assuming an 800K floppy source, only the files and folders within the same folder as RamDisk+ are copied. If the source volume is a 400K floppy, (i.e. a flat file system) then all files are copied over.
• The Selections... dialog allows you to specify specific files that you do or don't want copied to the RAMdisk.
The program has been written to work best within the Hierarchical File System of double-sided disks and a Macintosh Plus or later computer. It will also work with single sided floppies and 512K Macs, although the folder structures are not properly maintained as the files are copied onto the RAM disk.
This is a ShareWare program. As such you are free to use/copy, and pass on copies to your friends and neighbors. If you find yourself using the program for more than simple evaluation of its capabilities, you are requested to send a $20 registration fee to this author. You will receive back a disk with the latest version, a small manual on use of RamDisk+, and instructions for avoiding the ShareWare dialog that is displayed during program execution.
